Who We Are

My name is Michelle and I am the Flower farmer, Floral designer and owner of growth Farm + Floral. When planning my own wedding in 2019 my adventure with flowers began. I transformed the entire back seat of my car into a drying rack to dry flowers from my small backyard garden to turn into flower confetti. Playing around with flowers brought me so much happiness and provided fun during a usual stressful time. This is when I knew I needed more flowers in my life.

I love flowers, dogs (Frankie!), exploring our national parks, late night harvests with a sunset backdrop, coffee on a saturday morning, Spicy Smokey Margaritas and Green juice- balance. growth is more of a feeling than a word to me and I hope you feel that too. my hope is that my flowers bring you Peace, love and happiness.

Flower Farmer

The Farm

I never thought I would get the chance to have a flower farm within just a few weeks of dreaming up my goal. I got lucky when my friend took me to her families farm in Wadsworth, IL to meet the horses, dogs, chickens and the garden. The garden was more of a Prairie filled with weeds and kale. In that first trip to the farm i was offered to take over the garden area and “do whatever I want with it”.

In fall 2019, we started with removing all the weeds to start the next season with a clean slate. Spring 2020 came with a shutdown and extra free time to fill. The farm became my happy place, one thing I can thank 2020 for! That first year I learned a lot, made a lot of mistakes, and provided my friends and family with endless supply of flowers and veggies! I continued to push myself and grow my skillset through reading, Webinars, design intensive classes, freelancing with other florists, mentor groups, facebook groups, and watching endless videos.

Varieties we are growing include tulips, daffodils, dahlias, ranunculus, yarrow, Anemones, peonies, cosmos, zinnias, statice, Strawflowers, cress, peonies, celosia, Gomphrena, and pumpkins, and much more. You can buy our flowers from our online shop.

When I look how far this 1/4 acre of land has come in just a few years, I get excited for all the plans we have for the future. And, it’s not a bad gig to work on a farm surrounded by horses. Thank you for coming along on this journey with me!

Local

“leave it better than you found it” Protecting this planet has always been important to me. we grow all of our flowers following organic practices, Free of all Herbicides and pesticides. Every year we compost our waste right here on the farm, add organic compost, Utilize drip irrigation, Focus on rebuilding our soil and putting nutrients back into the earth. The farm provides a safe space for pollinators to flourish. watching the wildlife and sunsets at the farm are some of my favorite moments as it reminds to slow down and remember how beautiful life is.

supporting a local business is a great way to make an impact. About 80% of cut flowers purchased in the u.s. are imported. When you support a local Farmer you are reducing your carbon footprint. Local means no long flights, no plastic, no harsh chemicals and most importantly a longer vase life for you to enjoy your flowers. We love having friends visit the farm for volunteer work days (Being a one woman show can be rough!), and to DIY harvest for your own Events.
